Protection Power Membership Benefits
- What is proactive ID monitoring?
-
ID monitoring uses advanced technology to scan the Internet for the possible misuse of your identification, cards or banking information. By monitoring millions of web pages (including black marketplaces, identity theft forums and chat rooms) for your personal details, ID monitoring offers proactive protection against identity fraud and theft. If your identification or card information is spotted, it may be a sign that your data is about to be compromised and you will be sent an email alert. With quick action, you may be able to stop identity theft before it happens.
Your Protection Power membership includes SpotMyID proactive ID monitoring services.
-
- How would my identification end up on one of these sites?
-
It could happen any number of ways, and sometimes there is absolutely nothing you could have done to prevent it.
Identity thieves often steal personal information from mail boxes and trash cans, bank machine receipts and old prescriptions. They may hack into your computer or wireless network. Any of the institutions, retail outlets or service providers that have your credit card or other info on file, may be be compromised by an unscrupulous employee or an outside hacker. Unfortunately, identity theft and the methods used to carry it out are on the rise.

-

SpotMyID monitors the Internet for the potential misuse of your identification or cards, and will attempt to alert you before a breach actually happens. In this way, SpotMyID is a powerful proactive tool that may allow you to stop identity theft before you suffer major financial or personal pain.
If a breach is suspected, you will be notified the same day. As a Protection Power member, you will have access to an extensive SpotMyID Alert Help centre, which provides information on where and who to call, depending on the type of breach you receive.
All SpotMyID users receive weekly email updates from SpotMyID, whether it's an “all clear” message or a review of any alerts you may have recently received.
-
- What do I do if I receive an ID monitoring alert?
