How ID Monitoring Works
ID monitoring is a exciting new tool in your fight against identity theft, keeping constant vigilance over the Internet and all its dark corners.

How it works
Protection Power members have access to SpotMyID's incredible scanning service.
To register, you will need to provide the specific data you would like SpotMyID to monitor the Internet for. This can be:
- Your Social Insurance Number
- Your bank account number (including transit number)
- Your credit card numbers
- Your debit card information
- Your store or gas cards
- And more!
For additional security, you will be asked to create a nickname for each of your pieces of identification or cards (i.e. “Sally's AMEX” instead of the actual number).
Once your profile is set up, the scanning begins! SpotMyID constantly watches the Internet for your numbers or identification.

If SpotMyID spots your ID, it may be a sign your data has been breached! SpotMyID will send you an “On the Spot” red alert that same day.
In general, you have limited time – maybe only days or weeks – from discovery until your identity is used for criminal purposes. But if you act quickly, you could stop the criminal transaction before it's too late. As a member, you'll have access to Protection Power's Alert Help centre for extensive resources and information on what to do if you receive an alert.
In some cases, your credit card company may also help cover costs in case of theft or fraud – if you detect the breach on time, and if it can be proven. SpotMyID can help you do both, as well as potentially stopping damage fast.
